In the context of the podcast project, communication is important as a means of establishing a dialogue. First and foremost, our podcast should effectively convey our group's intentions and message. All spoken language should be correct and clear. To take full advantage of the medium, all visual and tonal communication should be also obvious to the viewer, as this will reinforce and build on the script in ways that a written medium cannot.
The other important component to facilitating a dialogue is by presenting a thought-provoking message. To do this, the video's content should be in some way familiar to its target audience (Columbia students as well as Japanese students), but it must also offer a new idea to the viewer. This idea, be it information the viewer previously did not know or a viewpoint that engages him or her, should make the viewer more invested in the video's message because it addresses an issue or a topic that he or she relates to. The dialogue is successful if the viewer feels like he or she should respond to the video, or even decides to discuss it later with his or her friends or colleagues.
